Vietnam’s Fruit and Vegetable Exports Hit Record High of USD 1.3 Billion in September

VINAGRI NewsVietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to have reached nearly USD 1.3 billion in September, marking a 41% increase year-on-year and setting a new all-time monthly record, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VinaFruit), citing preliminary data from Vietnam Customs.

For the first nine months of 2025, total export turnover is estimated at over USD 6.1 billion, up 8.3% compared to the same period last year. September also marked the first month of renewed growth after several months of sharp decline.

The recovery momentum was primarily driven by China, which accounts for around 60% of Vietnam’s total fruit and vegetable exports. In September alone, exports to China reached nearly USD 800 million.

According to Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of VinaFruit, Chinese demand surged during the National Day holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival, particularly for durian, which is widely used as a mooncake filling.

“Compared to other exporting countries, Vietnam’s durian is currently the most affordable and competitive, aligning well with Chinese consumers’ preference for reasonably priced products,” Nguyen said.

He added that October is expected to be the peak month for durian exports as the main harvest season concludes, while Vietnam continues to supply off-season fruit in November and December. During this period, most other exporting countries face shortages, giving Vietnam a competitive edge and helping maintain high prices.

With robust demand from China and a rebound in key markets such as the U.S., South Korea, and Japan, the fruit and vegetable sector is poised for further record-breaking growth. Export turnover for the full year is projected to reach USD 8 billion.
