Global coffee markets to reopen on Dec 8 with robusta expected to trade softly

VINAGRI News - Global coffee exchanges ICE New York and ICE London reopen this Monday (Dec 8) at around 4:00 PM Vietnam time, with Robusta futures expected to trade in the USD 4,130 - 4,200/ton range amid a slightly bearish bias. Low ICE inventories, however, continue to provide underlying support.

Summary:

> Global coffee markets reopen today (Dec 8) at 4:00 PM Vietnam time.

Robusta March 2026: USD 4,178/ton; Arabica March 2026: USD 8,264/ton.

Domestic Robusta (Vietnam) averages VND 103,100/kg, about USD 265/ton lower than London futures.

ICE Robusta inventories fall to an 11.25-month low; Arabica stocks partially recover.

Robusta futures likely to trade between USD 4,130 - 4,200/ton, with a mild downward bias but room for technical recovery.

Global coffee exchanges, including ICE New York (Arabica) and ICE London (Robusta), will reopen for the first trading session of the week at around 4:00 PM (Vietnam time) on Monday, December 8.

At the close of last Friday’s session, Robusta March 2026 futures on ICE London settled at USD 4,178/ton, while Arabica March 2026 futures on ICE New York ended at 374.85 US cents per pound, equivalent to USD 8,264/ton.

Converted into Vietnamese đồng, Robusta March 2026 currently stands at VND 110,100/kg, based on the prevailing exchange rate of 1 USD = 26,365.50 VND.

In the Central Highlands, domestic coffee prices on the morning of December 8 ranged from VND 102,500 to 103,400/kg. With an average of VND 103,100/kg, domestic Robusta remains VND 7,000/kg lower than the London March 2026 futures price - equivalent to a discount of about USD 265/ton.

ICE coffee inventories continued to tighten sharply last week, though Arabica stocks showed some improvement on Friday. In the U.S., import tariffs on Brazilian coffee pushed ICE-certified inventories down to 398,645 bags on November 20, the lowest in 1.75 years, before recovering to 426,523 bags last Friday. Robusta inventories also dropped to an 11.25-month low, falling to 4,049 lots on Friday.

Given current market signals, Robusta London March 2026 futures are expected to fluctuate within the USD 4,130 - 4,200/ton range on December 8, with a slightly bearish trend. However, sharply reduced ICE inventories may offer technical support for potential short-term rebounds.
