Rubber prices continue to decline amid ample upply

VINAGRI News - Rubber prices extended their downward trend as abundant global supply continued to weigh on the market. TSR20 rubber dropped by more than 0.5% to USD 1,704 per ton, while RSS3 rubber remained subdued at around USD 1,983 per ton.

Summary:

> TSR20 rubber prices dropped 0.5% to USD 1,704/ton, while RSS3 remained at USD 1,983/ton.

Global output in 2025 forecast at 14.892 million tons, up 0.5% year-on-year.

Côte d’Ivoire exports rose 14.4% in the first eight months of 2025.

Weak demand from China’s auto industry continues to pressure prices.

In Vietnam, latex prices slipped slightly as Chinese demand softens.

According to the latest report from the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC), global natural rubber production in 2025 is projected to reach 14.892 million tons, up 0.5% from 2024.

Among major producers, Thailand is expected to grow by 1.2%, China by 6%, India by 5.6%, Cambodia and Myanmar by 5.6% and 5.3%, respectively, while other smaller producers are forecast to increase by 3.5%. In contrast, output is projected to decline sharply in Indonesia (-9.8%), Vietnam (-1.3%), and Malaysia (-4.2%).

On the export front, Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s third-largest natural rubber producer, continues to make strong gains. In the first eight months of 2025, the country exported 1.05 million tons, up 14.4% from 920,000 tons in the same period of 2024. In August 2025 alone, exports surged 14.8% year-on-year, though they were 8.9% lower than July’s volume.

Meanwhile, rubber prices remain under pressure from China’s automotive market, where intense competition has eroded both sales and profit margins, leading to uncertain demand for rubber.

In September, leading automaker BYD reported a 5.5% drop in sales to 396,270 vehicles - the first decline in 18 months. The company also cut its annual sales target to 4.6 million vehicles, down 16% from its initial projection.

In Vietnam, liquid latex purchase prices in Binh Phuoc on October 7 fell by VND 5 - 10 per degree from the previous session, ranging between VND 405 - 415 per degree. Purchases by processing plants are trending lower due to a sharp decline in Chinese demand. Similarly, cup lump latex prices dropped by VND 500 - 1,000 per kilogram, reaching VND 19,000 - 20,500 per kilogram.

Across major producers, procurement prices remained mostly stable compared with the prior session. Phu Rieng Rubber maintained its liquid latex purchase price at VND 420 per degree, while Ba Ria Rubber’s cup lump latex traded between VND 17,200 - 18,500 per kilogram.
