VINAGRI NewsDomestic rice prices in Vietnam continued to fall slightly on Thursday, dropping by VND 50 - 150 per kilogram compared to the previous day, amid global pressure from India’s ambitious plan to export a record 30 million tons of rice in the 2025 - 2026 season.

Winter - Spring 2025 - 2026 crop outlook in the Mekong Delta

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, the country’s main rice-growing region, plans to plant 1.49 million hectares in the 2025 - 2026 winter-spring season, targeting a total output of 11.51 million tons. This is considered the most important crop for local farmers.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has urged farmers and local authorities to strictly follow pest control and salinity prevention guidelines to ensure stable yields.

Mr Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said: “The 2025 - 2026 winter-spring crop will begin planting in October 2025, so farmers should be vigilant against drought and salinity intrusion, especially in coastal provinces. Planting schedules must align with regional ecological conditions.”

The ministry recommends the following planting timeline:

October 10 - 30, 2025: For high-risk drought areas (coastal zones in Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Ca Mau, and An Giang), covering about 387,400 ha (26%).

November 1 - 30, 2025: Main planting period for upper, middle, and coastal zones, covering 685,400 ha (46%).

December 1 - 31, 2025: Secondary planting phase, covering 387,400 ha (26%).

Late planting should finish before January 10, 2026 to avoid adverse weather impacts.
