Vietnam pepper prices rise as September exports show strong recovery

VINAGRI NewsPepper prices in Vietnam rose by VND 1,000 - 2,000 per kg today, bringing the domestic range to VND 145,000 - 147,000 per kg. In September, Vietnam’s pepper exports recorded double-digit growth, signaling a clear recovery in market demand.

According to data from the International Pepper Community (IPC), black pepper prices in Lampung, Indonesia rose by 2.93% to USD 7,225/ton, up USD 212 from the previous day.


Prices in other major producing countries remained stable, with Brazil black pepper ASTA 570 quoted at USD 6,200/ton and Malaysian Kuching black pepper at USD 9,500/ton.


Vietnam’s export prices for black pepper remained steady at USD 6,600 - 6,800/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l grades.


At the same time, Muntok white pepper from Indonesia increased by 1.41% to USD 10,080/ton, while Malaysian ASTA white pepper and Vietnamese white pepper held firm at USD 12,500/ton and USD 9,250/ton, respectively.


According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam exported 20,487 tons of pepper in September 2025, including 17,486 tons of black pepper and 3,001 tons of white pepper, earning USD 136.3 million. Compared to August, export volume fell by 4.6% and value by 2.5%, but rose 19.5% in volume and 23.2% in value year-on-year.


The average export price in September was USD 6,490/ton for black pepper and USD 8,679/ton for white pepper, up 2.4% and 1.4% respectively from the previous month.


Leading exporters included Olam (1,942 tons), Phuc Sinh (1,721 tons), and Nedspice (1,637 tons).


The United States remained Vietnam’s top export market in September, importing 4,274 tons, down 11.1% month-on-month and accounting for 20.9% of total exports. 


Other key markets included:


𑇐 China: 2,071 tons (-10.1%)


𑇐 UAE: 1,962 tons (+15.5%)


𑇐 Netherlands: 940 tons (+21.8%)


𑇐 Thailand: 863 tons (+0.8%)


𑇐 Germany: 861 tons (-2.3%)


From January 1 to September 30, 2025, Vietnam exported 186,997 tons of pepper, including 160,113 tons of black pepper and 26,884 tons of white pepper, with total export earnings exceeding USD 1.26 billion (USD 1.04 billion from black pepper and USD 219.1 million from white pepper).


Although export volume fell 6.9% year-on-year, export value rose 27.6% thanks to higher prices. The average export price in the first nine months reached USD 6,647/ton for black pepper and USD 8,716/ton for white pepper - up USD 1,795 and USD 2,254 respectively compared with the same period in 2024.


Top exporters during the nine-month period included:


𑇐 Olam: 18,446 tons (-10.3%), 9.9% market share


𑇐 Nedspice Vietnam: 15,975 tons (+5.5%), 8.5% share


𑇐 Phuc Sinh: 14,853 tons (-19.8%), 7.9% share


𑇐 Simexco Dak Lak: 10,618 tons (-1.4%), 5.7% share


𑇐 Haprosimex JSC: 10,166 tons (-32.5%), 5.4% share


In terms of market structure, the U.S. remained the largest buyer, accounting for 21.4% of total exports with 39,979 tons, though down 30.4% year-on-year. Other key destinations included:


𑇐 China: 15,353 tons (+73.3%), 8.2% share


𑇐 UAE: 14,848 tons (+12.8%), 7.9% share


𑇐 India: 10,942 tons (+17.5%), 5.9% share


𑇐Germany: 9,641 tons (-24.5%)


The data reflect a strong price-driven recovery in Vietnam’s pepper sector, with higher export earnings despite a decline in shipment volumes.
