Vietnam exports first shipment of Tilapia to Brazil

VINAGRI News - Vietnam has officially exported its first 24-tonne container of tilapia to Brazil through JBS Group, marking a significant step in expanding the presence of Vietnamese aquaculture products in Latin America.

Summary:

> Vietnam shipped its first 24-tonne container of tilapia to Brazil via JBS Group.

The order comprises 32 containers totaling 700 tonnes for supermarkets and HORECA channels.

The shipment is scheduled to reach the Port of Santos on December 17.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil will continue supporting trade promotion and market expansion.

Both countries are advancing negotiations toward a Vietnam - MERCOSUR trade agreement.

Vietnam has shipped its first container of tilapia - 24 tonnes in total - to Brazil, departing from Ho Chi Minh City Port on November 6, according to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). The shipment was carried out in collaboration with JBS Group, Brazil’s largest food processing conglomerate.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Bùi Văn Nghị, this milestone represents a concrete result of ongoing efforts to connect businesses, expand market access, and affirm the quality and reputation of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products in Brazil and across Latin America.

This delivery is the first of 32 containers, totaling 700 tonnes of tilapia, ordered by JBS Group. The fish will be distributed through JBS’s supermarket chains, HORECA networks (hotels, restaurants, and catering services), and product showrooms across Brazil.

The current shipment is expected to arrive at the Port of Santos, Brazil, on December 17. Ambassador Nghị stated that the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil will continue to support both Vietnamese and Brazilian enterprises and local authorities by promoting trade connections, facilitating logistics, and addressing challenges to further boost the presence of Vietnamese products in the Brazilian and broader South American markets.

At the same time, the two countries are working toward negotiating a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). This initiative gains particular momentum as Brazil assumes the rotating presidency of MERCOSUR in 2025.
