VINAGRI News - Vietnam’s tea exports continued to weaken in October and the first 10 months of 2025, largely due to a sharp drop in shipments to Pakistan - the country’s biggest tea buyer. While exports to major markets such as Russia, the US and Indonesia also declined, shipments to China posted strong growth.
Summary:
> Tea exports in October 2025 fell 16% in volume and 18.4% in value year-on-year.
> Total exports in Jan - Oct 2025 reached 109,000 tonnes, down 10% in volume and 11% in value.
> Exports to Pakistan dropped sharply, weighing heavily on overall performance.
> Shipments to Russia, the US, and Indonesia also declined.
> Exports to China grew strongly and made China the third-largest market.
Vietnam’s tea exports declined in October and throughout the first 10 months of 2025, with lower shipments to Pakistan significantly impacting overall performance, according to the Import - Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Citing data from the General Department of Customs, the Department reported that Vietnam exported 12.1 thousand tonnes of tea worth over USD 21 million in October 2025, down 16% in volume and 18.4% in value compared with October 2024.
For the January - October period, tea exports totalled over 109 thousand tonnes worth nearly USD 189 million, marking decreases of 10% in volume and 11% in value year-on-year.
Export prices also weakened. The average export price in October reached USD 1,764 per tonne, down 2.8% from a year earlier. The 10-month average stood at USD 1,725 per tonne, a decline of 1.03% year-on-year.
Pakistan remained Vietnam’s largest tea export market in both October and the 10-month period. In the first 10 months of 2025, exports to Pakistan reached 38.5 thousand tonnes valued at nearly USD 75 million, down 8.2% in volume and 14.3% in value from the same period in 2024. The market accounted for 35.3% of Vietnam’s total export volume and 39.6% of total export value. The drop in shipments to Pakistan significantly weighed on Vietnam’s overall tea export performance.
Tea exports to other major destinations - including Russia, the United States and Indonesia - also fell during October and the 10-month period.
In contrast, exports to China surged strongly in October 2025, increasing 48.5% in volume and 35.6% in value year-on-year. For the January - October period, shipments to China rose 1.9% in volume and 6% in value, making it Vietnam’s third-largest tea export market.
