Vietnam coffee market set for sustained growth
Vietnam’s coffee market is projected to surpass US$1 billion by 2035, supported by rising demand from both international and domestic markets as well as growing efforts to increase the value of Vietnamese coffee beans.
According to Market Research Future, Vietnam’s coffee market was valued at US$548.5 million in 2025. The market is forecast to rise to US$584.15 million in 2026 before reaching approximately US$1.0296 billion by 2035, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5% over the forecast period.
The projected expansion reflects not only continued demand for Vietnamese coffee but also a gradual shift toward higher-value products and more sophisticated production and processing models.
Robusta remains the backbone of the market
Robusta is expected to remain the dominant coffee segment in Vietnam. Market Research Future estimates that Robusta accounted for approximately 86.25% of the country’s coffee market value in 2025.
Robusta beans are widely used in instant coffee, espresso blends, ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee and various other commercial coffee products. Continued growth in global demand is expected to reinforce Vietnam’s role as a major supplier in the international Robusta market.
However, the Robusta market is increasingly becoming differentiated by quality rather than volume alone. Producers and processors are paying greater attention to high-quality beans, controlled fermentation, advanced drying techniques, specialty Robusta, certification and direct relationships with buyers.
This shift could create opportunities for Vietnamese producers and exporters to capture higher margins. According to the report, consistent quality and reliable traceability can help the industry compete on factors beyond price.
Value addition offers significant growth potential
Vietnam remains one of the world’s key Robusta-producing regions, with the Central Highlands serving as the country’s main coffee-growing area. Đắk Lắk, Lâm Đồng, Gia Lai, Đắk Nông and Kon Tum have developed a major ecosystem covering coffee production and processing.
Future growth is expected to come not only from higher production volumes but increasingly from adding value to coffee beans. This includes improving cultivation practices and bean quality, strengthening traceability, expanding roasting and processing, and developing specialty coffee, instant coffee, RTD coffee and branded products.
The industry’s production strategy is also shifting away from simply expanding planted acreage toward improving productivity and efficiency. Coffee-growing areas are focusing on plantation rejuvenation, improved varieties, higher yields, irrigation investment, post-harvest processing and quality management.
These improvements could help Vietnam increase the economic value generated from its existing coffee-growing base rather than relying primarily on additional production area.
Traceability becomes increasingly important
At the same time, sustainability and traceability requirements in major export markets are pushing farmers, cooperatives, processors and exporters to build more professional and integrated supply chains.
For Vietnamese companies targeting the European market, production-area mapping, plot-level data management, digital recordkeeping, supplier verification and end-to-end traceability during processing are becoming increasingly important.
These requirements are particularly relevant as international buyers place greater emphasis on the origin and sustainability of coffee supplies. Companies that successfully integrate traceability into their procurement and processing systems could have better access to higher-value market segments and stronger connections with global coffee roasters.
Overall, Vietnam’s coffee industry is entering a period in which growth is expected to depend increasingly on value rather than volume. With Robusta maintaining its dominant position, improvements in quality, processing, branding and traceability could play a central role in helping the market surpass the US$1 billion threshold by 2035.
